I-CARE, Inc. is using National Weatherization Day, observed each Oct. 30, to bring attention to its Weatherization Assistance Program.
Serving Iredell and Lincoln counties, the program helps low-income households cope with the disproportionate percentage of their annual income that is spent on home energy bills.
The I-CARE, Inc. Weatherization Program “provides cost-effective, permanent solutions for reducing the heavy energy burden these families endure. This program not only saves energy through advanced technologies to improve the energy affordability for low-income families, but also saves lives and improve the health and safety of families by identifying carbon monoxide hazards, poor indoor air quality, mold, and other health threats.”
Through the Weatherization Assistance Program, trained technicians evaluate the needs of each home by conducting an energy audit. They suggest the energy efficiency methods that are the most appropriate and cost-effective for the home. “These measures could reduce your energy costs by $400 per year,” I-Care said in a news release.
The program also provides free, grant-funded services including insulation, air sealing, and repair or replacement of inefficient appliances. Eligibility requires an application, income qualification, and homeowner or landlord approval.
