4-year-old suffers minor injuries after struck by Statesville police car

A child suffered minor injuries after being struck by a police car on Thursday night.

Officer Kestler was responding to a suspicious activity call in the 1100 block of McLaughlin Street around 8:30 p.m. when the incident happened, according to the Statesville Police Department. She was stopped at the intersection of East Broad and Center streets when she began to turn onto Center Street and struck the 4-year-old in the crosswalk.

The child suffered minor injuries, the release states.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this accident. Officer Kestler is on administrative duty with pay during the investigation, the release states.
