If you think you may have cataracts and you are concerned with your vision, come visit our eye doctor. We are here to help in Mooresville, NC.

Cataracts occur when the normally clear lens in your eyes becomes clouded over. Most people who develop this vision problem remark that cataracts make it seem like they are always looking through a fogged-up window. This can make it difficult to engage in normal daily activities, like driving, reading, or watching TV. If you think you may have cataracts and you are concerned with your vision, come visit our eye doctor at Vision Center of Lake Norman in Mooresville, North Carolina. We are here to help.

Keep in mind that in most cases, cataracts will develop slowly and won’t cause problems with your vision at first. However, as the problem persists, you will find that this vision problem starts to affect your ability to see. When you first come into our office for help treating your cataracts, we may recommend wearing eye glasses and relying on stronger lighting to help you see.

If the problem continues to get worse and affects your normal daily life, we may recommend cataract surgery. Although you may be worried about the prospect of having surgery, remember that cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed in the United States each year. Also, after cataract surgery, many times you do not have to wear glasses or contact lenses anymore.

To help prevent the onset of cataracts:

  • Always wear sunglasses outside to prevent harmful cataract causing UV rays from entering the eyes
  • Wear a brimmed hat while outside to shield the UV rays
  • Do not smoke or quit smoking

To find out more about cataracts, how to determine if you have them, and the solutions that are available to you, please schedule an appointment with us at Vision Center of Lake Norman today. Our kind and caring staff, including our optometrist, Dr. Chuck Monson, is ready and waiting to provide you with excellent eye care.

Contact Lens Fitting - Mooresville, NC

When you come in for a contact lens fitting in Mooresville, NC, one of the first things we’ll do is go over what you want to get out of wearing contacts.

Today, thanks to the many advances made in contact lens technology, switching from glasses to contact lenses is easier than ever. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that putting a foreign object in your eye is any less intimidating. To make sure that going from wearing glasses to contacts is a seamless transition, we can provide you with a contact lens fitting at Vision Center of Lake Norman in Mooresville, North Carolina.

When you come in for a contact lens fitting, one of the first things we’ll do is go over what you want to get out of wearing contacts. We’ll help you determine the best contact lens option for you, such as multifocal contacts or monovision, extended-wear contacts or daily disposable lenses. Then, Dr. Monson will fit you with a pair of trial contact lenses that fit your eye properly and maximize your eyesight at both near and far.

The next step, once we find a comfortable, properly fitting contact lens, is for you to learn how to insert/remove the contact lens yourself.  After you have mastered how to take a contact lens in/out, then we will let you try them out.  Generally, we have you return to the office for a follow-up visit 1 week after your contact lens fitting to see how your new contact lenses are doing for you.

Below are tips to help:

o Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling your contact lenses.

o Rinse off your contact lenses with a multi-purpose solution and inspect them for debris before you put them in your eye.

o Take it easy as you start wearing your lenses. Start by wearing them in two to four hour intervals and gradually work up to wearing them all day. We do not recommend you sleep in your contact lenses, as it greatly increases your chances for eye infections.

o When you remove the lenses, make sure to wash your hands with soap and water.  Also, make sure to use fresh contact lens solution each time putting your contact lens in your case.

If you have any questions about what happens during a contact lens fitting, give us a call at Vision Center of Lake Norman. Remember, we’re committed to helping you maintain the health of your vision and your eyes.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

Regardless of your age or physical health, it's important to have regular eye exams.  During a complete eye exam, your eye doctor will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.

Pediatric Eye Exams

Early identification of a child's vision problem is crucial. Some experts estimate that approximately 5% to 10% of preschoolers and 25% of school-aged children have vision problems. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), all children should have their eyes examined at 6 months of age, at age 3 and again at the start of school.  The AOA recommends that children who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses should have their eyes examined at least every 12 months or according to their eye doctor's instructions.

Management of Ocular Diseases

Our services include management of Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Cataracts.

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eyes result from the chronic lack of lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye, which can cause minor irritations, an inability to wear contact lenses and an increased risk of corneal inflammation and eye infections.

Refractive Surgery Co-Management

Look to us for co-management of LASIK, cataract, and other ocular surgery.

Eye Emergencies

Exam room and chair

Eye injuries range from the very minor such as getting soap in your eye, to the catastrophic such as chemical exposures or lacerations, which could result in permanent loss of vision. Find out when to seek immediate medical care.

OPTOS Retinal Exam

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. We offer the optomap® Retinal Exam as an important part of our eye exams.

Sports and Specialty Eyewear Fitting

Sports eyewear can give you the performance edge you're seeking for just about any sport (tennis, racquetball, etc.) or recreational activity (hunting, fishing, etc.). Visual Field Testing measures the quality of your side vision (peripheral vision). Usually involves covering one eye and focusing the other on a fixed point in front of you, while describing what you can see on the “periphery” of your vision.

Glaucoma Testing

Glaucoma testing involves measuring internal eye pressure (IOP), visual field and a detailed exam of the retina for signs of disease.
