Authorities recovered the body of a missing 22-year-old swimmer on Lake Norman late Sunday morning.
The family of the man, from Winston-Salem, requested his name not be released, said N.C. Wildlife Officer Allen Vang.
The search for the man began shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.
The man was among a group on a 21-foot boat near Queen’s Landing, Vang said. He jumped into the lake and was wearing a Type 2 life jacket, Vang said. The man’s friends noticed he was struggling in the water and that his life jacket had come off. A friend jumped in to try to help but the man went underwater and never resurfaced.
Crews from multiple agencies searched the area until around sundown Saturday with no success.
The search resumed around 10 a.m. Sunday and at 11:37 a.m., Vang said, the man’s body was located.
