Curbside leaf collection returns for fall in Mooresville

Each fall, crews collect a significant amount of leaves from neighborhoods across Mooresville. In October, November, and December 2025 alone, crews collected 1,831 tons of leaves, equal to more than 3.6 million pounds.

To prepare for the increased volume, the Sanitation Department is adding more vacuum trucks to scheduled collection routes. Crews will continue collecting leaves alongside regular garbage, recycling, and yard waste service.

Tips to make the leaf collection process more efficient

• Keep leaves loose and do not place them in bags.
• Do not mix leaves with brush or other debris.
• Keep vehicles at least three feet away from leaf piles.
• Place leaf piles away from storm drains.
• Keep piles at least three feet away from garbage carts, recycling carts, mailboxes, and other objects.

When will my leaves be picked up?

Leaves should be placed curbside and ready for collection by 6 a.m. on your regular yard waste collection day.

Because crews are collecting a much larger volume of material during leaf season, service may take longer than usual. Crews are also unable to return for leaf piles placed at the curb after they have already serviced a street, so residents are encouraged to have leaves ready before collection begins.

Sanitation crews will work to ensure all residences are serviced as quickly as possible.
