Free family event will feature a Jaws of Life demonstration, fire equipment displays and a chance to "Touch a Truck"
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Rutherford County Fire Rescue invites the community to its Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Magnet School, 701 East Main Street in Murfreesboro.
The event will feature a live vehicle extrication demonstration using the Jaws of Life, giving visitors a firsthand look at the equipment and techniques firefighters use to rescue people trapped in vehicles.
“We want families to meet the firefighters who serve them and learn practical ways to stay safe,” said Rutherford County Fire Rescue Chief Larry Farley. “This open house is a chance to see our rescue equipment in action, ask questions and learn together. We hope everyone will come out and join us.”
Families can also meet local firefighters, explore fire equipment displays and get an up-close look at emergency vehicles during a Touch a Truck experience. Attendees will have opportunities to learn about fire safety and ways to help protect their families.
Admission is free, and free hot dogs will be available during the event. All ages are welcome.
