SALISBURY, N.C. – Women's volleyball junior outside hitter Lillie Kate Rogers and football redshirt junior defensive lineman Kyiev Bennermon earn Oct. 20 Catawba Athletics Budd Group Athlete of the Week honors.
Rogers led the Catawba offense with 38 total points on the week, lifting the blue and white to some impressive victories. On Tuesday, the junior recorded eight kills and two aces in Catawba's first victory over Wingate since 2008 in a 3-0 road sweep. The outside hitter then delivered 13 kills, 14 digs and an ace as the Catawba Indians snapped Tusculum's seven-match winning streak on Friday night 3-1 in front of a lively crowd at Goodman Arena. Rogers capped off her week with another double-double, tallying 10 kills and 11 digs against Mars Hill on Saturday.
Bennermon was a game-wrecker defensively for Catawba in its 37-33 win at Anderson on Saturday. The redshirt junior led the defense in nearly every statistical category, finishing with five solo tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup and three QB hurries. The blue and white defense stood tall in the second half, allowing just seven points and none in the fourth quarter, leading to a thrilling Catawba comeback victory.
