COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team secured its first win of the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Northeastern, 3-1 (25-27, 26-24, 25-21, 25-18) in the Gamecock Classic, hosted by South Carolina at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
With today's win over the Huskies, Head Coach Trent Dunahoo secured his first win as a head coach.
How it happened
Set 1 – Northeastern opened an 18-12 advantage before the Spartans mounted a comeback. UNCG used a 6-2 stretch to pull within two, 20-18, then claimed four of the next six points to take a 24-22 lead. The Huskies answered with the final five points of the frame to win, 27-25.
Set 2 – After UNCG led 15-13, Northeastern rallied for a 9-3 run and moved ahead, 22-18. The Spartans responded with five unanswered points to regain the lead, 23-22. Northeastern tied the score at 24, but UNCG finished the set with four consecutive points, including a block by Izora Gragg and Connore' Siler-Nixon, to even the match at one set apiece.

Set 3 – The teams traded points throughout the early stages of the third set. With Northeastern leading 18-17, Kendall Lanclos sparked a four-point UNCG run with an ace, followed by a kill from Allie Sweet and two Northeastern errors. The Spartans held on for a 25-21 victory and a 2-1 match lead.
Set 4 – UNCG seized control with a 6-1 stretch to build a 16-10 advantage. The Huskies narrowed the margin to three, 18-15, but the Spartans answered with a 5-1 run and closed the match on a Sweet kill, 25-18.
By the numbers
- Sweet led all players with 24 kills, while hitting .357 and adding two service aces and nine digs.
- Lanclos matched her career best of 16 kills on a .516 hitting percentage, while Hailey Clifton added match bests of 12 kills and four blocks.
- Gragg paced the offense with a match-high 50 assists to go with six digs, two blocks and one service ace.
- UNCG led defensively with 71 digs and added seven aces and one block.
- The Spartans hit .377 as a team, totaling 67 kills, seven aces and eight blocks.
