In conjunction with the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program, Morganton Department of Public Safety invited surrounding agencies to participate in a multi-agency checking station on Friday, September 18, for several hours. Coordination and partnership between seven different agencies resulted in getting an alleged impaired driver off the road, the service of two outstanding warrants and 76 traffic charges.
The checking station took place near the city limits on both sides of 18 North and resulted in 76 traffic charges, varying from seat belt violations, no operator's licence and driving while revoked charges, no insurance and registration violations.
The Morganton Department of Public Safety extends thanks to the following agencies who attended: Burke County Sheriff's Office, NC State Highway Patrol, Lenoir Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, Valdese Police Department and the Drexel Police Department.
